We May Only Have Tonight

To those who still occasionally do drop by hoping to read an update by Yours Truly, sorry.

I've been a bit too preoccupied with work, my thoughts and generally having no life to put into words and into this space. Yes, I have once again lost the flair for writing. Writing anything, in fact. I'm looking at my essays and the ones in high school look worthy of a Pulitzer Prize compared to the nonsense I write in college. On the bright side, apparently my lecturer thinks I have a nice accent ;]

Sad thoughts aside and now for sadder ones, I've come to a halting realisation that I have no life. Which is why I have nothing to write about. Each and every day is a repetition, like running on clockwork. My schedule is the same- day in and day out, sun up and sun down.

The semester is coming to an end and I'd like to end it with a bang. No, not the crash-and-burn-epic-fail bang but with the knowledge that I did my level best this time. And hopefully not repeat the events of last semester.

And what have I learned this time? *epiphany mode*

1. Always make time for yourself.
2. Live, laugh, love.
3. Eat, laugh, share.
[Note that laugh is once again in the list]
4. Don't be afraid to ask.
5. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. [just as long as you don't repeat them]
6. When you don't get it, memorise first. You'll get it. Eventually.
7. You're an A-sian. Not a B-sian or a C-sian. Live up to your continent.
8. Keep your promises.
9. There's a reason why you can't get internet connection on certain days. It's a sign you're supposed to be studying.
10. When you're bored, the bathroom could always use another cleaning.

And now to happier notes, I haz a new fone! [translation: I have a new phone]. I feel like such a tech-geek. After doing some serious browsing and contemplation, and maybe a random outburst here and there, I was convinced to upgrade my dinosaur phone to a Smartphone.

Oh and did I mention a new camera too? Truth be told, I secretly wanted the pink one. My inner girly-girl tried not to throw a tantrum as I heard myself say "Silver's fine."

Annndddddd, I bought a Kindle! Well, it's not mine but oh, the thrill of purchasing it, the adrenaline pumping through my veins, heart pumping, arteries dilating and imaginary angels singing with their heavenly voices as I handed the cold, hard cash in exchange for a nondescript brown box. But it was the contents of the box that mattered.

Not forgetting, the joys of using a credit card. I'm now old enough for a... Wait a minute. Does that mean I'm growing old? Oh shoot!

Ps: The author apologises for ending the post abruptly. She has abandoned the laptop to obtain a mirror to search for wrinkles, frown lines, crows feet, laugh lines and other signs of aging.

The Other On My Heart

When I was younger, my sister and I used to compete in everything. Even though I knew I was 4 years older than she is, it always made me feel better than I could do things better than she could. I could run faster, I could write better, I could do harder math problems, I could sleep later. Almost everything. Except draw.

You guessed it, I can't draw to save my life. Well, maybe there was a particular time when all she drew was scribbles and she couldn't colour in the lines but when she grew older, I became jealous.

During the time when all I knew about genetics is "a bit of mummy and a bit of daddy = you", I wondered where she got her creative side. It was annoying that she could not only draw, she could colour and produce different hues, do arts and crafts- practically creating something out of nothing but a piece of paper and some coloured pens.

When she grew much older, she took notes with more colour and little doodles at the side. I hated looking at her notes because it was always nicer and better. The doodles were doodles to her but to me, it was a masterpiece.

There was once when we were slightly younger, I challenged her to a little competition. I thought I could draw better than she did and we started to draw. Armed with a 2B pencil, I started to draw the outline of an elephant- with its trunk majestically raised to the sky, large floppy ears. I was very proud of my drawing. I peeked at my sister sprawled on the floor busy drawing and SHADING a picture of a cat. It didn't look like one of those sketches but it was definitely a cat. With long whiskers, big eyes and a stripped body; there's no mistaking it for anything else but a cat.

Suddenly mum walked into the room. She saw us drawing quietly and peeked at our drawings. "That's a very beautiful cat", she commented at my sister's artwork. I eagerly showed her mine.

"It's a giraffe right?"

I've learned my lesson. There are some things I can do, and some I can't. And that would be drawing.

The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side

Time just seem to whiz past, pandemonium ensues and thus causing havoc.

It seemed like just yesterday I started the week with Ethics and ended the week with laughter and gossiping all through the night. And in a blink if an eye, the week starts again with Ethics. Not that I have anything against is but seriously, do we really need to be tested on utilitarianism, teleology and Aristotle? I like learning about these ideologies but I don't like having to read and memorise certain facts just to regurgitate them out during exams.

Some things don't only require understanding. So what if you understand how the first World War started if you can't remember the date? That just renders the fact you know useless.

Speaking of facts, it really annoys me when people ask or say:

1. Oh, you're from Sarawak? When did you come to Malaysia?
- Oh, I didn't know we're foreigners.

2. So how do you find Malaysia?
- Full of douches like you. *innocent smile*

3. Oh wait, you're born in Penang. So is your mum a Malaysian citizen?
- Well douche, if you paid attention in History class, Sabah and Sarawak made Malaysia happen. If not, you'd still be Malaya.

4. So Sarawak is not as developed like Malaysia, huh?
- Oh for the last time, Sarawak is part of Malaysia and has been for the past 48 years! It's true we don't have the Twin Towers and highways stacked on top of one another but it's every bit as developed as KL. Heck, are you even developed? If you are, then why is Malaysia still called a "developing country"? Note the -ing in develop.

5. Omaigoat, they eat like everything there! Snakes, crocodiles, etc.
- Why do you care so much? They're not hunting you for food. Take a chill pill, will ya?

6. Is the education system there the same as in Malaysia?
- *stares*

7. *Hasty amendment of question* I mean, is the education system there same as in the peninsula?
- It's definitely different. We learn that most people from the peninsula are douches and are an embarrassment to the rest of us Malaysians. So don't you dare call yourself a Malaysian when you don't even know Malaysian history.

I think would be better if Sabah and Sarawak separate from the peninsula. But wait, then where would I belong?
