A New Addition

There is now a new addition to our small family of 'Computer Appliances'. Please put your hands together to welcome:

Canon Pixma MP145

In case you don't know what it is, it's a printer/photocopier/scanner or a 'three-in-one'. Hmmm.. Sweet Memory now has one less customer bothering them to photocopy stuff.. Besides, the way some of the people working there treat the customers like as if they are the boss or they show the "I'm-very-satisfied-with-my-meagre-earnings-so-leave-me-alone" face. Puh-leez lar.. The most you can eat out of your paycheck is Maggi for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. In fact, as customers, we're the ones paying for your stupid Maggi so you won't starve to death. The least you could do is appreciate us and do the work without complaining.
This happened just a few months ago in Sweet Memory. I overheard a customer looking for tracing paper. She just happens to have braces and can't talk very clearly in them.
Customer: Ex-th-kyoth me, where do you put the twacing paper?
Ungrateful b*****: Hah?! Sik paham lah!
Customer: *repeats her request but slower*
U.B: Oh... *turns to look for the item and asks her colleague* Eh, ne 'twacing' paper tok?
*Laughs very loud eventhough the customer is right at the back of her and can hear everything*
What is the world coming to?! *snaps back to reality* Eh, how on earth did I jump to this topic?

Pneumono-what??!!

PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS

Yeap, its the longest word ever recorded in our beloved language, English. Interesting, eh? To make things even more interesting, its actually a name for a disease. Something to do with inhaling "ultramicroscopic" thingies that make you go "a-tish-oo". And, what's better is that I can pronounce it. YAY!!

I can COOK!!!!

My mum decided that she should take a break from cooking the other day. So she said that we(my sis and I) are old enough to make lunch. So I had to poke around in the fridge and guess what I discovered?? Prawns, leftover rice and cabbage. Hmm... Fried rice and tempura prawns. Yummy.. The best thing about it is that I made it myself and it was edible. Not only was it edible, it tastes really good. I'm drooling *dribble*

And... Prayer really works! Just to tell ya'll out there that praying really does work and God really hears your prayers and answers them ASAP. XP So don't get discouraged if He doesn't answer it fast enough. He will answer it. Its just a matter of time till it comes to pass.

Till then,

Abigail Evesdrops

26 July 2008

Overheard:

Daughter: Mum, why do prawns change colours after they're cooked?

Mother: Well, that is God's way of making sure we don't eat undercooked prawns and get sick.

Way to go, Mom!!

Overheard:

Kid: Hey dad, I need some money. I forgot to bring my wallet

Dad: Err.. You want RM5 or RM4?

Kid: *rolls eyes* That's like asking a sane man whether he would prefer RM 100 or RM 1000.

Stand back!!!

16 July

I'm soo far behind in my blogs and then I thought "I should change to Blogspot or something cos its waaay cooler" but I'm a very lazy person when it comes to the internet and such, so here I am still stuck with Friendster Blog.

Anyway, today we had assembly. Our principle said something about eating breakfast cos its the most important meal of the day when suddenly. . . . some girls 'mengalami sesak nafas'. Scary? Yes! Creepy? Yes! Weird? Veerrryyy.. In the afternoon, it was time for duty for two of my closest friends. When suddenly. . . two girls came into the sick room with just seconds apart. One crying and the other stuggling to breathe. Actually, both were have problems breathing. When both girls went home, we (5 of us) talked about that inccident and dubbed Josephine -> pembawa drama. Cikgu Cecelia however was -> pembawa penyelesaian cos she helped us solve major problems for example: transporting the girl out of the sick room with a stretcher. The problem was just that we can't handle the weight of it if you add the weight of the girl on it (so much for being a member of the Malaysian Red Crecent Society). But hey, it isn't our fault we can't carry her. So back to cikgu Cecelia, she helped us get two male teachers and they carried her out. *Three cheers for teachers!*

One of the teachers was Mr Tan and guess what he said when he saw Daniella and I: "I owe both of you something right?"

OMG! That was so long ago. .Since Form 1. . My initial reaction? (-_-" My final reaction? "Yeah, since Form 1" was my answer.

Okay, my main intention was to post about how some people are so considerate and yet others are so. . . err. . not considerate? Anyway, let me give you two similar inccidents with different public reactions.

Scene 1
Student goes home because of difficulty breathing. Reaction?

human 1: What happened?

human 2: Where did she go?

human 3: Is she ok?

human 4: Is she going to be okay?

Scene 2
Student goes home because of difficulty breathing AND she passed out.

human 1: Pengsan kah?

human 2: Balik ka?

human 3: *snickers*

human 4: *whispers and points at her then giggles*

I also saw this somewhere in Kuching

Scene 3

Human (A) has weak arms and hands which are not in use (handicap la). His friends bought chicken rice for him and they are now going to eat.

Human 1: *Makes a makeshift table using a chair with the same height as the one Human (A) is sitting on.*

Human 2: *Opens the packet of chicken rice and puts the spoon in between Human (A)'s toes.*

Human (A) the proceeds to eat with the others around him eating as well. What surprised me most is that these people that helped him looks like typical ah-bengs and ah-liens. But they don't mind this guy tagging along with them. That is true compassion. =D

A.S.T.C

7 July 2008

I just got this cool acronym to help me (and whoever reading this) in Maths. . Its for the angles in a circle/quadrant thingy. I goes something like this:

1st Q- All positive

2nd Q- Sine positive

3rd Q- Tangent positive

4th Q- Cosine positive

Therefore, the acronyms are A.S.T.C. . To make things even more interesting, it stands for:

A-all

S-students

T-talk

C-crap!!

Doesn't it make things sooo much easier? Heh. . Kudos to Josephine for making that up. You've just save thousands of students from the agony of memorizing which quadrant is which. *applause*

My Adventures

2 July 2008

Haha. . Adventures. . Right. . Yesterday, Pn Jennifer 'mengiringi' us to MRSM Kuching. The place was sooo huge. I mean the field is like- wow. Anyway, my friends and I went and we had a good time. We were first divided into groups and we were separated. *sad* But We were all nearby. Emily was group leader of Group 5. We're all so proud of her (ST. Teresa leads the way!!).

Anyway, my group leader was from SMK STAR and he (to tell you the truth) although he was leader, we had a better unofficial leader. He was 1 year older thus more experience in Physics. So, we made him build our air rocket. He said he's done it before so its not considered as bully. According to his prediction, he said it could 'fly' as far as a football field. I just had to ask, "Width or length?" Just for the record, we built the rocket in less then 30 mins. So, it was time for our rocket to fly. Our team leader named it "Prince Phillip VI" 6 cos we were group 6. So, off it went. 10 meters. . 20 meters. . 30 meters. . 40 meters. . more than 40 meters. . and we thought we won. After our turn was Maxine's group. And. . . . theirs went further than ours. Hmph! 4 steps away. . *Sniff* Ok la. Enough said about that. Need to go and sleep liao. Heh. .

Guess What?!!

27 June 2008

OMG! Today was THE MOST controversial day of all my 16 years of age. I'm not really in power to say what happened but it was sooo cool. I mean too bad. This person's plan tottaly backfired and that person is sooo in hot soup. Boiling soup. Litterally. It started with a bowl of noodles and ended in the Principal's office.

Anyway, I finally sat for my Bible Exam on Luke today. It wasn't VERY hard but it kinda reminded me of Sejarah SPM. Seriously. Except its in English and its not about Tamadun Islam. Talking about TI, I find it rather interesting to learn about something that is not your own culture. And talking about culture, I was flipping through the channels and I came across this Indian talk-show. It more of a beauty talk-show. And I suddenly realised, I can't make a head or tail out of Tamil. Out of a string of un-understandable words, the only word I could understand was "EAT"!! Haha.. So much for being half indian and staying near my grandmum for nearly 7 years.

Which reminds me, June is the time of the year for uncontrollable spending. With friends mostly born in the middle of the year and nice movies out in the cinema, how to control?? I could swear my phone bill made my dad pull out some hair out of his nearly balding head (He's not bald, but he will if he doesn't stop pulling his hair everytime I get my bill). Me need unlimited amounts of cash. Me need $$. Ok, I'm not obsessed with money, its just that everything needs money and thanks to globalization and the US, oil prices just increase (its rather obvious that I have no one else to blame) -

I conquered Kuching Town.... Again!!

19 April 2008

I went to Kuching town a few days ago with my best-est friends. Anyway, We went to watch Kung Fu Panda and to tell you the truth, it was funny. In fact, it was hilarious. But I do have some comments which I feel is good enough to appear in the newspaper (cheh, perasan..)

1. I have no idea that Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan's voice was used. I mean, even if you change the voice to someone unknown, noone could tell the difference.

2. Ok, fine. Use their voices. But they are big stars.. Should you (director) give them something better to do (or say) than just to fill up space? I mean, they don't play much of a part in the movie. I bet there wouldn't be much (or any) difference if the "Furious Five" were there.

3. The names.. OMG.. "Master Oogway"? Isn't that like Chinese (Mandarin) for tortoise? Well, it certainly sounds that way... "Master Shifu"? Seriously.. It is as redundant as "Cuba Try" Hahaha.. But oh well, we can't blame the 'orang putih' cos it's not their "thing" but they should really consider doing some research before concocting a name.
And.. I found out that 50 bucks is enough for a movie (no popcorn or drinks.. Just tickets.), a pair of flat heeled slip-ons, lunch at McD's and half a thingy from Coffee Bean. And you have..... RM 15.65 more or less extra. Which is definitely a good thing =)

Yesterday we did our group English oral. Group name? Sexxay Monkey (please refer to cassandraoll.blogspot for the pic and a sort-of explanation) Anyway, we had to talk about the characters of this sort story called "The Drover's Wife" and our group decided to do a sketch.

Anyway, this line would probably make you laugh and possibly fall of your chair.

"The Drover's wife is an educated woman. She can read although she is in the Australian outback and away from civilization"

Scene 4 (or was is 5?)

D.W: *points to magazine excitedly* Oh Ma Gawd!! Angelina Jolie is pregnant... Again!!

"The Drover's Wife is also good in sewing"

Scene 5 (or 6)

Son: Hey mom. Watcha doin'? Making another bag?

D.W: Its not just a bag. Its Prada (White Chicks style)

Ok.. Ok.. Maybe reading it is not as fun as watching it but we couldn't get any pictures or video clips cos Cassandra's camera was out of battery. *Sigh*

T'was a normal day in the class. We had a subject (I do not want to say which one to protect his/her privacy) and he/she was dictating a question.

He/she said:
"......of a duck...."

And we were like "Did he/she just say duck?"

It turns out, it was dart.

He/she also said:

".....20 socks...."

"Did she just say socks?"

Turns out, he/she said soaps.

Banana

8 July 2008

This post should actually be "*smtg2* partII" but since I forgot the name of the previous post, I'll just stick to "banana" cos it's somewhat "berkaitan" to what I'm about to talk about. But before I procede, please forgive me if I miss out my 'F' cos for some reason, the button's stuck and I have to press it extra hard. A friend said its maybe for "special" reasons. She said it had something to do with the 'F' word. But as for me (being a kuai kia), I NEVER use that word.

Anyway, Banana. Reason? That's what my cousins called me during the second day of Gawai.

Actually, it was the first night. The story goes a lil like this:

My cousin and I went to the long house to meet up with my other cousins. She invited us to eat and suddenly other cousins showed up. One of my cousins brought her youngest son who is about 2 years old. At 8 something, he started to get a lil cranky and wanted to go home. To distract him for a while, my other cousin pointed up and said (in Bidayuh, of course) "Look up! Can you guess what that is?" From my side, it really looked like a banana and before I could stop myself I said, "What's that? Banana kah?" OMG!! So malu.. My cousins were like "What?! Banana? *roars with laughter* Paduhal, it was a replica of a...........

I mean, the beak was sticking out and they coloured the beak with yellow so it wasn't entirely my fault I mistook it for a banana. If you're wondering what the "banana" was for, well, its kinda hard to explain but I'll do my best..
Every Gawai, each kompo (which is the sub of a Kampung) has 'rakit' competion. The rules are simple. The raft must be made original and the deco is up to the kompo's creativity. My cousin and his friends were in charge of that and they came up with a raft complete with a replica of a hornbil. Please don't ask me what its made of but it looked so totaly cool. Anyway, they won first place and the trophy looks sooo awesome. Too bad I don't have a picture of the raft. Forgot to bring the camera. Anyway, did I explain well enough?
So, that brings me to the end of this post.

It has been a while since I last blogged. Anyway, today I made macaroni and cheese.. Yummy =P But its like ready made. Just follow the instructions. For beginers, I would recommend this :

Anyway, I also made pizza a while ago. I have a pic of it

So, my Gawai ah? Fun-ner this year cos my cousins are back and I'm old enough to drink. Haha.. This is what I drank...

Coffee liquor. Its contains 17% alchohol and you put ice-cream on top to make it sweeter. The downside? Its a bit 'pedih' when it goes down your throat.

Red wine. Bleh.. Bitter yet sour. (oxymoron? yeah, I know)

According to Maxine, I was still VERY sober. And yesh, I know I was sober

Before I forget, as soon as we reached my uncle's house, I sat down on the couch. 5 minutes later, I saw:

It was HUGE!! And it was sucking on my precious AB Positive blood.

16th May

16 May 2008

Well, this blogger is now 16 years of age. Which according to the Lodgians (A-Level International students) said one can drive. Interesting eh? Malaysian government does not believe this and I totally agree with them although the heart aches for freedom. I mean, many 16 year olds (especially those from the male species) do not have a proper sense of understanding that a car on the road does not mean its for one to speed. Duh.. I don't think the inventor of cars wanted a drag race but wanted to get around town faster. Lazy bums. If there weren't cars, I bet there would be less obesed citizens around.

Anyway, I just had to be born on Teachers Day, eh? But it's a good thing. Well, most of the times. Well, today is not really the best cos the school is also celebrating. WHich means I have to wake up extra early just to get to school to celebrate Teachers Day. I'm not against teachers, but well, *sigh*

I'm not against TD or anything. The good thing about it is when else would people seranade you on your birthday? 16th May of course. Lucky me. Haha. .

Singing out,
Mature yet?

When I grow up

13 May 2008

This question has been a life-long debate in my life, so far. Well, I found a lil' thingy that would actually tell me how long (years) would I have to work for an average of 8 hours per day from Monday to Friday.

If you know that Hollywood's top stars can earn $20 million dollars per film and that the average time to shoot a movie is six months, you won't be surprised to see that their paychecks make the average person's income look minuscule in comparison. In fact, if these celebrities worked standard 8-hour workdays, it would take them less than seven days to earn $1 million.
In all likelihood, you and I – the little people – aren't making that kind of money. In fact, it will take some people their entire careers to cross the million-dollar mark even once.
With that in mind, we looked at a variety of jobs to see just how long it would take to earn $1 million working in each position. We used the median annual salary of each profession, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and broke down the earnings based on a 40-hour workweek.

Here are 30 jobs with earnings anywhere from below minimum wage to six-figure salaries and how long it would take to earn $1 million in terms of hours, eight-hour workdays and years.

Therefore, I have decided to take uncharted paths and maybe opt for dental hygenist (but I hate looking at other people's teeth), an elementary school principal (I don't really know how to take care of kids) or an achitect (but I can't even draw an elephant). Looks like I have to just keep looking for better jobs that I could earn $1 mil in less than 20 years. (20 yrs cos I don't wanna take too long toget one goal done and I don't wanna spend the rest of my life toiling with not much return)

Time is Precious

11 May 2008

Precious. Isn't that the word used by a creature in LOTR? Yeah.. "My precious". Now, time should really be taken into loads of cosideration and care, tender loving care. It's something we should be aware that not only its around, but it flies. And when it does, there's no stopping it.

Haha.. The reason why I'm saying this is because I've been really absent-minded with time and never thought of it as being precious to the extend of craddling it in my arms, holding it like a kitten, but I was rather the type of person that would let time just spread its wings and take of. That has to change. Before I get bore you to death, I'd like to recap the lovely things that happened after my previous post.

I'll just start from the 8th of May. It was my mum's birthday. We didn't do anything big cos it was a school day and my dad's not around. But my sister and I had some really cool surprises up our sleeves. We bought a card a few days ago. Normal right? But I made my sister to kiss the envelope with her lips coloured with lipstick. Then we left the card on the dinner table before we went to bed. The next morning, we woke up and heard my mum downstairs already. We could also hear the envelope tearing so we quickly showered and rush down to wish her. We also had a gift but that was saved for later when my dad called. We initially planned that he was to call at 6. But God knows what happened, he called at 6.10am. Too late, daddy. SO we gave her the gift earlier at 6.05 and told her to wait to open it when daddy calls. Unfortunately, daddy called late and we had to leave for school so mummy said she'll open it when we get home at 1pm. When we reached home, the first thing we did was call my dad. Then when she opened the top, she saw "Ogawa" printed on top.

Mum: Ha....?! You bought Ogawa?

Me: No la.. We just used the box since it fits perfectly.

Mum: (Not suspecting anything, continues to unwrap it while watching her favourite Indonesian program)

When its finally opened, she stares at it with her mouth open. Speechless, she hugs her new Ogawa hand-held massager.

Hehe.. Happy Birthday mum!

According to the latest RD mag (May edition), 'woot' means a cheer, like yipee or yahoo. This word is frequently used online. Okay, enough with the online jargon. Its time to learn new and unknown things. Like 'woot', it is just as amazing.

I found out about a type of disease most of us (excluding people who suffer from this disease) knows of. Its called Old House Delusion Desease (OHDD). Let me tell you about a man living with this disease.

"More than once I have had my brain crippled by what psychiatrists call OHDD. My wife and I bought a very old house that had every known problem, including termites, not to mention just one closet, and an entire room that had no electrical outlets- a clear indicationthe house was not built by or for people with a need for, say, lighting. Were we discouraged?

No! We thought it was quaint!

Here's how delusional we were. We had plumbing problems, and in an effort to fix a leak, some plumbing guys were crawling around under our house. They emerged holding crumbling, rolled-up newspapers, which they'd found wrapped around our pipes, apparently as insulation. We unwrapped on of the newspapers and found it was a Miami Herald from 1927.

So there we were, confronted with stark evidence that our pipes, in addition to leaking, were very old. Its like being aboard a boat in the middle of the Pacific and discovering that not only were you sinking, but also your hull was made entirely out of crakers.

How did we react to this horrible news? We were thrilled! It was so charming! The plumbers were also excited, but in their caseit was because they knew we were putting their children through Harvard.

OHDD is very powerful. Usually, when you buy an old house, you hire professional house inspectors. These inspectors are very thourough: They spend the whole day crawling around the house, and then they give you a detailed, written report, which says "Do not buy this house, you idiot!"

Not in so may words. The report breaks the house down by major defects, the sub-defects. The house, according to the report, consists entirely of defects. You read the report, but because of OHDD, none of it penetrates through your brain, even when the inspector warns you about serious problems.

INSPECTOR: I want to show you something in them living room...

YOU: Don't you love that room? It has such character! The moulding!

INSPECTOR: About the moulding- I want you to see this. (Takes out screwdriver and taps it
against the moulding. The moulding dissappears in a smokelike puff of wood particles. Then a large part of the wall collapses, leaving a gaping hole, through which can be seen, in the gloom, an exposed wire that emits a shower of sparks, illuminating a dripping pipe covered in green slime. A rat darts by, persued by what seems to be a boa constrictor.) [Btw, this is my favourite part]

YOU: Ha ha! These quirky old houses. That can be repaired, right?

INSPECTOR: Well, I suppose it could, if you're willing to....

YOU: I'm not worried about the cosmetic problems, as long as the house is structurally sound. (You stamp your foot on the floor to emphasise this point. It goes through the floor.)

INSPECTOR: Um, that's another thing. Your floor joists have been almost entirely eaten away.

YOU: (retracting your foot) Termites? No biggie! A lot of these old houses have termites! We can just have it treated by....

INSPECTOR: It's beavers. They're building a dam in the basement.

YOU: (silence)

INSPECTOR: I've never seen that before.

YOU: (recovering) Well, the kids have been wanting a pet!"
[I thought this guy would snap out of it after the beaver thing, but looks like he's fine with his kids getting rabbies]

I've never heard of this sickness and would never wish meet people like this. Haha. Looks like we've learned something new! Woot!

I've just updated my Windows Explorer. It looks so totally awesome! Woot! (Again)

And guess what? Add Math is over! Woot!

And now, its time for me to shut up and keep still to study for BM tomorrow. Sigh.. (Woot feeling no more)

Murder in Mind

25 April 2008

Today was supposed to be another random day in the city of Kuching.. All until disaster struck. Let me give you the skinny. But first, let your immagination run wild (but not too wild).

I came back from school at 2 cos like I said before this, I was busy in school. Then my mum says "Let's go to the bank". Ok I say. We'll go to the bank. Then mummy says "Let's go eat in NK" Ok I say. We'll go eat in NK. The mummy says "Lets go cut our hair. We're supposed to do that last week". And I again say Ok. Now I'm f-ing regretting it.

Now it's like a conversation...

Me: So, where do you want to cut your hair?

Mum: Why don't we try the place near *i won't say where*

Me: But mum, we always go to the other one... *starts to whine*

Mum: I know, but they charge so expensive and the guy is so pondan-ish

Me: But we always go there

Mum: I know.. Lets try this for once.

Yeah.. once is enough

We finally reach there and I sit down at the chair. Then out comes the gi-normous lady with an ugly haircut and I was like "SH*T!!*" But my mum was oblivious to that fact and she went on explaining that I want to cut MY hair?! Es-kew me.. but who is the one that suggested that ah? But nevermind.. So, she proceeds to tell the dude that will be cutting my hair that I want a layer. But I suppose that idiot if from China and he does not understand a single syllable of English or Bm, he nods his head and carries on rinsing my hair.

After that I take a seat on that chair and he starts snipping bits here and there. It was at first ok but then came the horror. He decides that my hair would look better if its cut the 'ah-lien' style and he proceeds to making my hair short in front and longer at the back. Obviously I didn't know what he was up to. Besides, I was as blind as a bat. I wasn't using my glasses (who in their right mind will while cutting hair?) Anyway, when I run my fingers through my hair, I nearly stranggled the idiot with that stupid-satisfied looking smile on his freakishly hideous face. But I simply said that I think it would be better if he made the back a slight bit shorter. So, he says "OK, no problem. When he said "How now? Nice or not?", I felt my hair was shorter and I felt kinda weird. But nevermind, maybe I wasn't used to my hair being a few centimetres shorter. When I finally put on my glasses, I not only felt like stranggling him but also chopping his head off, then proceed to do the same with the rest of him limbs. I'll probably try to gauge off his eyeballs off the eye sockets. I nearly screamed.

My mum, who has always wanted me to change my hairstyle, was happy about the haircut he gave me. I was like "SH*T !!" in my heart, of course. And my mum just had to ask me "So, how do you like your new haircut?"

The moral of this story is: Trust one hairdresser and one hairdresser only and go only to that hairdresser unless he/she tutup kedai or dies or you moved to a new place.

My Adventures

4 May 2008

Yesterday was Friday. The day of rest. Emily, Bridget and I went to town to watch 27 Dresses. Our plan was to meet at my place at 2.30 pm after school and my mum would drive us to town. The movie was at 3.30. We had a lot of time to spare (so I thought). We left the house as soon as Emily arrive (cos Bri was the first one). We piled into the car and soon, we were on our way to Medan Pelita. While I was closing the gate, I realised that I have to wear my 1 inch heel cos my sandals are busted and slippers aren't very appropriate.

On our way, my mum remembered that they closed one of the roads leading to town. So we had to take the slightly longer way. Problem is, everybody who was going to town used that way. What can I say other than "OMG, its so crowded. Setanding with the jam in KL".

We finally reached Medan Pelita at 3.27. With minutes to spare, we furiously attacked the elevator buttons. When we reached to the 9th floor, the counter was sort of deserted. We thought that the movie is not yet released. When we reached the counter, we asked for three tickets and then we saw that they changed the whole sistem in Star Cineplex. The sitting plan is now in a computer program and the ticket looks way cooler than before. So we bought one bottle of Root Beer and one Combo.

We 'marched' into hall 5 and made our 'grand' entrance and found out that there were only 6 people including us enjoying the movie. We came in while the advertisments were playing. The advertisment that I hate the most is the KFC advert. It seriously makes your mouth water just looking at the lovely chicken made with the original recipie from Colonel Sanders.. Ahhh... Surprisingly, we could only hear the audio and no visual. Hallelujah!! No watery-mouth today. LOL.

After the movie, we decided to go to Parkson. And guess what? It started to rain. Well, not the kind of rain that is really bad but just bad enough to get little drops on your head. We hurried to Hilton and asked the guy at the counter where the 'back door' was. He kindly showed us the way. People working in Hilton are friendly (two thumbs up). So passed Scoops and then made our way to Parkson while waiting for the rain to stop.

When the rain finally stopped, we walked to McD to eat something cold. Yesh, you read right. Eating cold stuff after the rain.. Yummy. After downing a chocolate sundae each, we walked to Tun Jugah and stopped in Popular bookstore. I bought a book and correction tape. Altogether, RM26.90. It was actually RM26.89 but thanks to the new 'law', I have to pay an extra 1 cent. Haiyo.. Anyway, after that we walked to Sarawak Plaza. It was nearly 7 when we reached there. Bri suggested that we bought identical charm bracelet or something but too bad, most shops don't have nice ones. So it was nearly dinner time and Emily suggested we eat in Pizza Hut. So, we walked all the way to Pizza Hut and sat down. We decided on the Hawaiian Chicken. 15 minutes later, we were digging in to a very cheesy pizza. Getting it out of the pan was trouble cos the strings of cheese weren't giving up without a fight.

At 8.30 pm, I called my mum to pick us up. It turns out, my mum and sis were already in Sarawak Plaza and saw us there but decided not to 'kacau' us. So, Emily and Bri followed me home cos Emily can't reach her mum. At home, Emily and Bri 'stumbled' upon my pictures taken when I was young. They said that my face changed so much. Really kah?
Well, that's all for my adventures on Friday night. Haha.. Note to self, don't try walking with heels around Kuching.. EVER!

What I've learnt today

29 March 2008

Today, like every other average day(not average cos we had to go to school ON A SATURDAY!!!) Anyway, let me go through step by step on what happened this beautiful Saturday.

5.15 am- woke up. still groggy and I couldn't open my eyes.

6.25 am- left the house to get to school

6.45 am- reached school and tried to get a little sleep but was shocked by the news Adeline Liaw told us. She said an accident took place near St. Jude. And guess what, Olivia's mum was involved. But she wasn't sure of it so we would ask Olivia later.

9.35 am- recess. went down to chat. Sat with my gang (eleh..) Then since Adeline was there, I proceeded to ask Bol whether or not the 'accident' was true. But she wouldn't answer. It was seriously an awkward situation so I decided to change to subject (Thank God for that) I told them about Emily's misunderstanding about me going on my 'date' Saturday night which is why I can't go out with them. Its a sort-of conversation.

Em: So, you can't go out with us tonight la?
Me: Yeah..
Bol: She has a 'date'
(we all thought that Emily got the two rabbit ears in 'date')
Me: (playing along) Yeah, what to do.. I'm worship leading in youth this week so I can't escape
Em: Huh? What are you talking about?
Max: You really, really thought she got date wan ha? She's a kuai kia la.. If its you, I believe la

After that, we were all laughing and I choked on my pastry.

Conclusion: don't laugh while you're eating and never pass up a time to change the subject out of an awkward situation.

9.55 am- break time over. I had physics. Cass told me that she got permission from Mdm Chan to go watch a debate by Sc1 in the hall. She also asked permission from our Physics teacher and surprisingly she said yes.

10.30 am- went to watch the debate with Lysandra and Guprit. Of course Cassandra was there. It was most informative as we had the same topic to present next Tuesday. Lucky or what?!
I went back to class (Biology) at 11.30 am. I was just to nervous cos I remembered that she wanted us to hand up something. So Guprit and I went back up leaving Cassandra and Lysandra to continue watching the debate. Thank God for Cikgu Carol, she was so light-hearted that she actually helped us even we arrive late into her class. She rawks! Class ended at 11.55 and Cassandra gave us a whole bunch of 'do's and 'don't's. It wouldn't be much of a surprise if she was the one more tensed than I am.

5.00 pm- starts freaking out because I can't reach the guitarist.

6.00 pm- get his mum's handphone number from another friend

6.30 pm- he finally calls me and I start to calm down

7.00 pm- reached the church only to find it locked. Paduhal, Mike haven't arrived yet so I took the opportuinity to go to the shops nearby. He arrives 30 seconds later and opens the grill. My mum drives off with my phone. Mike starts opening the grill and then we walk up to get to the door only to discover that he brought the wrong set of keys. The one without the keys to the door. Sigh...

Hannah (our saviour) comes with another set from her house (we were lucky to reach her just before she left the house) but for some reason, it took her quite long to get to church. Tengok-tengok, she had to pick Joan up. The door is finally opened at 7.45 pm. The ordeal is over. I will share what Mike talked about during youth in a different post.

23 March 2008

Today of all days we had a Physics seminar in MBKS auditorium. The place was thumbs up. The air-conditioning? OMG.. You can fry egg there. Ok lah.. I'm exaggerating but it was not as cold as I expected it to be. The teacher was good (Mr. Lee.. of course la). There was one joke which was really funny. If you see me, ask me. I can't put it here cos it's hard to explain.. Heh..

Moving on, I slept like seriously late last night. Well, that's all because I could not sleep. First, my nose was blocked. So I couldn't breathe (duh, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out) so I thought, nevermind then I'll just breathe through my mouth. A few minutes later I was coughing and wheezing cos goodness-knows-what got 'sucked' into my mouth. No water in my room, I sucked on my vitamin-C tablet. That was a relief. Thank God after that my nose cleared up and I managed to sleep...for about 4 hours. Suddenly, the door flew open. "Abigail, you're supposed to be awake 1 hour ago. Aren't you going for the seminar today?.....(I can go on but then I wouldn't have time to eat, sleep and have potty-breaks) Btw, that was my mum. So I had to drag myself out of the bed when I finally got my eyes open (yes, I can maneuver myself from my room to the bathroom with my eyes closed) and looked at the time. Gosh, did I nearly get a heart attack. It was 8.30 and Emily was going to pick me up at 9.

This is how I spent my Easter Sunday. By waking up late and rushing to a seminar. How nice. Beats eating chocolate and spending time with bunnies (sarcasm here if you didn't catch it). But then, that's not the true meaning of Easter. I'll blog about it next time (next Easter hopefully)

Butterfly Catcher

28 Feb 2008

I'm having exams this whole week so I don't have any 'inspirational and thought-provoking' posts. But, I did look for some thought-provoking words by famous people. And so, today's post is about my comments about people's words.

1. "Don't be so humble-you're not that great"
- In my opinion, some people pretend to be humble just so that people build trust and friendship but they can end up being back-stabbers.

2. "When a man is wrapped up in himself he makes a pretty small package"- John Rustin
- This is so true as some people just care about themselves. Its like as if the world revolves around them. So, to all small packages out there, 'unwrap' yourselves. You'll be happier and so will the people around you.

3. "The key to failure is trying to please everybody"-Bill Cosby
- As far as I know, this is one of the many keys to failure. But this is the most important as most people do that. So, just be yourself. I know you're gonna say stuff like "Easy for you to say". Well, I'm also trying not to please everybody. This is one of my many long-term goals.

4. "Opportunities multiply as they are seized"-Sun Tzu (Art of War)
-I don't really know about this but to what I know, maybe it does help. I'll experiment on it and post it is a different post. I put it on 'cos I think it sounds cool.

5. "Do or do not. There is no try"-Yoda
-'Try' is a very vague word. You can 'try' and fail but you have to 'try' first. Although I think the word 'try' here refers to the "I'll try to do it. If I can't......" It's either you do it or you don't do it. Yes or no.

6. "Ideas are like stars; you will not suceed in touching them with your hands. But like a seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them will reach your destiny"-Carl Schurz
-This one is my favourite. It concerns your future and how you'll get to it. The most amazing part is how he relates it to a sailor or the 'Jack Sparrow' of the sea. I hope you'll take this as your guide too.

7. "Physics is like a butterfly. Its beautiful but hard to grasp"
-I made this one up 'cos I like physics but my mind goes blank when I sit for a paper. Its like I get the concept but application wise, I suck. This one here, refers to me. The butterfly catcher.

Maybe I should stop here. Its time I go 'catch some butterflies'

Hummingbird

23 Feb 2008

I've just finished printing out a picture of a sketched hummingbird. It looks so cool. Then I thought I should blog about this. A hummingbird is the smallest species of birds in the world. But it easily adapts to its surroundings. So, it is very untrue if one says that bigger is always better. Yeah its true, if you're talking about your monthly income. Right now, the question is adapting to your surroundings. As for myself, adapting is a huge thing I have to do. The gap between form 3 and form 4 is HUGE! And so far, how much have I 'adapted' to? Maybe I should refrase, how much adapting do I have to do?

Enough about the hummingbird. I went to the KIA (kuching International Airport) just now. Well, that place is like practically my back door cos we go there often. Anyway, I picked up something quite interesting at the Tourism Enquiry booth. It was a pamphlet about "Eating Places in Kuching". It surprised me that I haven't been eating out very often and how many places I have to go to really call myself a 'Kuchingnite'. Technically, I'm just borrowing the term cos I'm not born in Kuching. But it is good to know places to dine, right? I mean, wow! You should have seen the number of restaurants I haven't been to.

Talking about food, there's this good place my mum and I just discovered last Friday. Its in Jalan Keretapi. To be more specific, its right beside the new Sri Sarjana building. They have really good food. Maybe just to fill you stomachs but the food is delicious. Buttered scones, very cheesy pizzas, the ommelettes are gorgeous. Serious.. Try it!

Okay. Time for me to stop typing. Its just as tiring as writing. Will try to keep this up.

The Lotus Eater

From 22nd Feb 2008

The Lotus Eater. According to my eng teacher, it means idleness. I think its a term in the old eng for 'couch potato'. Well, I feel like I've live my life like a 'lotus eater'. Maybe it's because I haven't done anything great or outstanding. So far, I'm just an average girl 'enjoying' my life. The usual things like chemistry, biology, physics...etc.. I guess I've been idle in my daily life, expecting things to just fall from the sky. Although for some apparent reason, I know about myself being idle and all, but I don't seem to do anything about it. I keep telling myself that I have to change, but it just doesn't seem to "click". Have you been through that? You just want to change and you keep telling yourself that but it's not happening. eg: "I must start studying" and before I know it, I'm blogging here.

The mid-term exam is just around the corner. TIme doesn't stop when you want it to, and goes to fast when you don't want it to. I guess its just in your mind. I mean, everyone has 24 hours right? No one has an extra 1 minute even if they needed it.
History is just down-right lame. I mean, even if we needed to study about other people just so that "we won't make the same mistakes", when are we going to learn from our mistakes if we don't have mistakes? Its just odd. Although I hope you won't misunderstand me and just make mistakes you can avoid.

Judging by the amount of words I've written, I think I've written enough. I hope I can continue doing this when I'm free.
