For To Seek A Warmer Sky

The third semester has come and gone and I have never felt so hollow. There was no spark. Not even a flicker. Maybe it's the fact that we've gotten so complacent with everything and that is not a good sign, I think.

As much as I feel sometimes time passes a bit too fast, there are times where I feel it's moving much like a snail's pace. Last week- slow. This week- I wondered where the week went. Anyway, a few days ago, my friends and I thought it would be a great idea to volunteer at a local zoo. Well, things didn't exactly turn out the way we expected it to be but it was an experience I think I'd never forget. And I just had a lightbulb moment. I shall talk about lessons learned that could be applied in real life.

1. Politics.
As much as we don't want to get involved, there's always politics involved in whatever job one may do. If the superior is in a (pardon the language) shitty mood, then he would treat his subordinates in the same way and it's like a domino effect. You know they say don't bring your personal issues to work? Truth be told, you're allowed to do that only if you're the boss. It doesn't matter if your personal life is affecting your mood for the day because you're the boss.

2. Discrimination.
Deny it all you want, there will always be discrimination in the workplace. Best part? People from the peninsula don't really like people from the east. Even better? People from the east are not doing much to quash that stereotype. Oh well, life goes on, doesn't it?

3. Girls get the perks.
Well, that is only if your superior is male and like women. Somehow they are sort of wired to not give women easier jobs. Or if they see a woman struggling (even if they're pretending to struggle), they immediately rush to assist them. I am serious. Although I'm guessing with the current issue of the lack of chivalrous men and sexism, this is not really a big point. But maybe in Malaysia it still is. Not that they respect women much and I'm pretty sure some comments could be viewed as sexual harassment.

I think those are the three most valuable lessons I learned in my short stint working with the animals. So that's all folks (:
